ABOUT

"Art is a powerful medium to shift states of consciousness. I strive to make art that is not a product of the mind but of meditative awareness and intuitive perception."

-NIVEDITA JOY

Inspiration

My motivation to paint is to show the power of light and color to illuminate the beauty, wisdom and love inside us - the things we can't see with our eyes but feel with our hearts.

I desire to communicate a vibration - a feeling of joy and peace that lifts hearts.

I practice an ancient Indian system of meditation called Kriya yoga. My artistic process intertwines with my meditation and spiritual practices, continually inspiring and nourishing me on all levels.

Style

Over the years, I have worked with various mediums, including traditional oil on canvas, gouache on paper, and watercolor. Currently, I primarily focus on watercolor & and mixed media.

My work is characterized by keen attention to detail and the use of a rich yet soft and harmonious color palette. In particular, the Chinese painting technique Gongbi is close to my heart, as it inspired me to seek delicacy and precision in every detail.

Tools

I'm currently working with mineral pigments of watercolors on rice paper, using natural soft brushes.

Background

I received my bachelor's and master's in fine arts in Russia. Through my studies, I have an extensive background in art history and classical painting styles. I have also taught art in school.

My oil on canvas paintings have been displayed in galleries across the US and featured in many festivals, including art business news magazine, the painting gourmet show on Comcast channel 15, and Artist of the Year 1st place by the Los Gatos Arts Association.

For the past three years, my focus has shifted exclusively to watercolor on paper. I have developed my unique style with a medium that balances fluid expression and precision in details.
